As long as there is a will to make that dream come true,” said Arya encouragingly.
Under the Jakarta Limousine (JL) flag, Arya rents out a number of premium cars, such as Rolls-Royce Phantom, Ferrari Spider Seraph, Bentley Flying Spoor, Hummer 2 Limousine, etc. “I only open businesses that are not or have not been touched by other people. Here I see so many expats who need luxury cars to satisfy their business partners or improve the company’s image,” said Arya.
According to him, the luxury car rental business is very promising. Because, on the one hand, the demand is high, while on the other hand, almost no one is involved in this business. His sharp business sense quickly smells a promising business opportunity.
The story begins when Arya started to develop a car rental business in 2005, under the name Jakarta Bahana (JB). The car rental business was built with a capital of only Rp. 3 million, which was used to rent a place. The capital is also the rest of his business as a failed CPO trader. How’s the fleet? It seems that he just has to work with some of his colleagues who have cars. Only by placing classified ads on the Pos Kota page, slowly the rental business is increasingly in demand.
In 2006, Arya changed the name JB to JL. This name change was inspired when he accompanied businessmen from Russia who had difficulty getting luxury cars to do their activities in Jakarta. Seeing an opportunity, he immediately changed his business concept to a luxury car rental.
Even though he admits that he doesn’t have a specific strategy for building JL, his rental business is growing quite rapidly. He claims every year the growth is 12% -18%. Nearly 90% of its customers are corporate, such as those from the mining and palm oil industries. Others are individual customers for weddings and photo shoots. Last year, JL’s services were used to accompany several country guests at the ASEAN Summit and the SEA Games.
“I have never used a special strategy to introduce the name JL. Everything is built by word of mouth and from trust. That’s all we have guarded until now,” said the father of three children.
Currently, Arya’s fleet consists of 26 units of luxury cars of various brands. It employs 35 experienced drivers, plus three employees in the Promotion and Marketing Division. Within a month, Arya admits that one unit of his fleet operates an average of 16 times. Towards Idul Fitri and Christmas, demand usually jumps 100%. Earlier this year, JL was selected as a partner of Bank BRI to accompany Priority BRI customers who wish to visit Jakarta.
To be able to enjoy these luxury cars, Arya set various rates. For example, with a 12 hour package, JL offers to rent a Rolls-Royce Phantom for Rp. 40 million, Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph for Rp. 35 million, a Ferrari Spider for Rp. 30 million, a Bentley Flying Spoor for Rp. 32 million, and a Hummer 2 Limousine for Rp. 37.5 million. In addition, a full day and overnight package is also provided. The rate, admitted Arya, is still negotiable. From this price, Arya admitted that he could get a margin of 3% -5%. The remaining accumulated profits will be invested in fleet additions.
Arya claims that his luxury car rental service has advantages, especially in terms of service. For example, 98% of the drivers he works with are proficient in English. In addition, the JL drivers were selected from former security service company drivers who qualified in their fields. These drivers are well trained. For example, knowing how to act quickly when faced with danger, such as a street fight or a car being attacked. “The driver is not only an escort, but also a servant and provider of a sense of security for the passengers,” said Arya.
To strengthen its safety and comfort, JL equips each unit of its car fleet with additional facilities, such as soundproofing, a refrigerator with drinks and snacks, as well as books and newspapers.
Apart from the haves and expats, JL’s luxury car rental services are also enjoyed by world artists who have performed in Indonesia, such as Linkin Park, Beyonce Knowles, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber.
According to Budi Hermawan, PT Yala Persada Angkasa (YPA) staff, his company has been a loyal customer of JL since 2008. “JL’s name is well known among corporates who need luxury car services. Our corporate clients and guests from Singapore and Hong Kong are very satisfied with the service,” said Budi.
Budi mentioned, within a month YPA orders 3-4 times. Usually, Alphard and Mercy type cars are rented for 12 hours and one full day. “JL has a fleet of various luxury car brands. The prices are very reasonable. It is worth the services provided,” Budi admitted.
